Motorcycle crash with pedestrian kills Florida woman

Late last Thursday night, a motorcycle rider struck a pedestrian who was crossing Kirkman Road. Several witnesses saw the accident and one even recorded the incident using his cell phone. Around 12 a.m., a bystander called 911 to report that a woman was just laying in the street. Despite hitting the woman, the rider left the scene of the crash, according to Florida police.

Police found the 23-year-old motorcycle rider near the accident scene. His motorcycle was damaged, and his clothes were reportedly splattered with blood. He was taken to the Orange County Jail and charged with vehicular homicide, along with fleeing the scene and operating his motorcycle with a suspended license. The motorcyclist claimed that it was another biker traveling with him who had struck the woman and then struck him.

The 52-year-old pedestrian was taken to Orlando Regional Medical where she died a couple of hours later. The recorded cell phone video shows three motorcycles traveling northbound on Kirkman Road at a high rate of speed just before the crash happened. Police are reviewing the recording to determine exactly how the accident happened, and they say it appeared as if the bikers were racing.

The motorcyclist will have to face the charges made against him in a criminal court. According to Florida law, the family of the deceased can also file a civil suit against the man. Nothing will ever be able to make up for the terrible loss the family has suffered due to the horrible crash, but a monetary award can help defray the end-of-life expenses they have had to pay.
