Truck accident claims life of Florida tractor driver

A truck accident claimed the life of a Florida tractor driver as he was traveling on U.S. 27. The tractor was towing a piece of equipment and was in the right lane at the time of the truck accident. The semitrailer was approaching the tractor from behind and was unable to slow down to an appropriate speed to avoid an impact. Consequently, the semitrailer hit the spray trailer that the tractor was pulling.

The tractor driver died at the scene of the accident from what was determined to be blunt force injuries. The force of the accident impact turned over the tractor and even busted the glass in the driver compartment. The speed at which the semitrailer was traveling was not indicated, but it is known that the driver had difficultly stopping after the accident. The truck driver did sustain some injuries and received treatment at a local Florida hospital.

A fatal accident is tragic, especially when it is one that could have been prevented. It could be inferred that speed and perhaps a lack of vigilance contributed to the untimely death of the tractor driver. One witness stated that the tractor was driving with flashing lights and had a caution sign visibly posted, indicating that the truck driver should have seen the slow-moving vehicle in front of him.

At this time, charges have not been filed against the truck driver, but the accident is still under investigation. However, the family of the deceased may have options for pursing a civil case against the driver for damages from the truck accident. A wrongful death case is not contingent upon criminal charges, which means that the family could move ahead with this option to seek compensation for the unexpected expenses that resulted from this man's untimely death.
