Florida school bus involved in crash with semi

In a rare instance, a school bus was involved in a collision with a semi-truck. The crash caused injuries to seven Florida students and two inside the semi-truck. Authorities may charge one of the drivers in this incident.

The accident happened on a Monday afternoon in Bradford County. Prior to the crash, authorities received multiple calls about the driver of a semi who was reportedly driving erratically. While responding to the calls, the semi crashed into the back of the school bus carrying 15 students. When authorities arrived at the scene, the bus driver informed them that she observed the driver of the semi approaching from behind, but was not slowing down.

The bus driver attempted to get out of the way by releasing the brake and pressing on the gas. Witnesses informed authorities that the driver of the semi never pressed on the brakes. At this time, charges are pending against the driver of the semi-truck. One of the students on board the bus was seriously injured while two people inside the semi also suffered serious injuries.

While a school bus crash is not that common, it does occur. In this case, at least one student has suffered serious injuries at the hands of a semi-truck driver, and other students have unknown injuries. Apart from criminal charges, the driver of the semi may also face civil litigation if the family of the injured student decides to pursue legal action. The family may have the right to file a personal injury claim against the driver and any separate owner of the vehicle on behalf of the injured child. A successfully litigated claim may result in monetary compensation awarded by a Florida civil courtroom.
