Young boy dies in crash on Florida highway

A Sumter Electric (SECO) employee was involved in a car accident. The crash killed a 5-year-old boy, and the company has launched an investigation into the matter. Florida authorities have not filed charges.

According to reports, the accident happened when a 59-year-old driver and employee of SECO Energy crashed into the back of the vehicle the boy was riding in. The 29-year-old mother and her husband suffered injuries in the collision and were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. The boy was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he later died.

Since then, the boy's parents have been released from the hospital. The driver of the company vehicle also suffered injuries, but they were only minor. Reportedly, the employer is conducting its own internal investigation and issued a statement that the company's heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Authorities indicate that the SECO employee did not slow down when he approached the back of the vehicle.

When driving a company owned vehicle or any other vehicle in Florida, it's the duty of the driver to operate in a manner that is not a danger to others. Unfortunately, failure to operate a vehicle in a responsible manner can cause tragedies such as this one. While the family of the deceased boy plans for his funeral, they may decide to explore their options for legal recourse. The family retains the right to file a wrongful death claim against the SECO employee and the company itself to seek recovery of monetary damages sustained as a result of their tragic loss from the crash.
