Hit-and-run driver kills woman in Florida crash

Unfortunately, it is a common occurrence for a pedestrian to be killed by a hit-and-run driver. In one recent case, a woman was originally suffering from life-threatening injuries following a hit-and-run crash. In an update, Florida authorities announced that the woman died in the hospital.

On a recent Saturday night, the woman attempted to wave down a vehicle after she was involved in a domestic altercation. An oncoming vehicle struck her, and the driver allegedly fled the area. The woman was transported to a medical facility for treatment of severe injuries. However, she was unable to survive and succumbed to her injuries.

Initial reports asked for help from the community in locating the hit-and-run driver who was believed to have been driving a white passenger car. Just over two hours later, it was reported that the driver had been identified, but that no charges had yet been filed. The investigation was reported to be ongoing.

This woman's Florida vacation turned into a tragedy her family members. Regardless of whether the driver is charged criminally for his part in the crash, and regardless of the outcome of any criminal trial, the family members of the deceased may still have the option to file a wrongful death claim against him in a Florida civil court. If the claim is successfully litigated, the family members could be awarded compensation for their losses that stemmed from the death of their loved one. Such an award is often compensation not only for end-of-life expenses but also for future lost wages and loss of companionship.
