Florida woman killed in crash with semi

The interstate can be a dangerous road for motorists and passengers. When a collision occurs, accident victims typically suffer serious injuries or, even worse,  lose their lives. In one recent crash, a Florida woman was killed and two others were injured in Leon County.

The accident happened on a recent early morning at approximately 1 a.m. on I-10. Police say that the driver of a semi-truck was headed in the eastbound direction when the vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed over the median. The semi collided with a pickup truck that occupied by a man, age 42, and a woman, age 47. Another woman, who was driving behind the pickup truck, pulled over and sought to offer assistance to the victims in the pickup.

Tragically, the passenger succumbed to her injuries. The pickup driver was transported to the hospital with injuries described as critical. According to reports, the semi driver was taken to the hospital with injuries characterized as minor. Authorities are still investigating the accident and charges are expected.

The family of the deceased woman is undoubtedly grieving their sudden loss. The family retains the right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the semi-truck for emotional suffering, funeral costs and other financial losses occasioned by the fatal crash. The critically injured man is entitled to file a personal injury claim against the semi truck driver for pain and suffering, lost wages and medical costs. The trucker's employer may be added as a defendant in both claims. An experienced personal injury attorney can help the family gather and assess the relevant evidence and explain what legal steps may be necessary to navigate through the Florida civil court system.
